Google has opened their AI text api
The other day I was reading a blog online, and it was talking about how google opened up access to some people to test out their new toys. So, of course, I was super excited, but sadly it wasn’t exactly what I thought I was signing up for.
So what was it, you might ask? I will let you know what I thought it was and then what it really was… as well as the steps I took to get access.
What I thought I was signing up for
So first things first, I had thought that I was signing up for the google api to be able to make those cool pictures with their text-to-image generator. You know, the one that made the picture of the corgi in time square?
Turns out that wasn’t the case, so what did I sign up for?
What I actually signed up for… google LaMDA.
So what I actually did sign up for was to be able to access three modules of google and their LaMDA project, which is pretty cool. Honestly, it was neat, but it was just a massive letdown as I really thought I was going to make cooler pictures that my brain had created.

So what is google LaMDA?
Google LaMDA is a neural network developed by Google designed to converse with humans. Alright, if you have made it this far, you know that I already can’t follow instructions or read what I am signing up for, but I will give a full breakdown of what I have figured out about this tool. I will explain what it is, what it does, and how you can sign up, so just keep reading.

How to access LaMDA
Alright, so this is where we get to my confusion because I had thought I was signing up for the image creator, but in reality, it was LaMDA. But the steps should be pretty close.
- Sign up with Google for a Gmail account. This is how they will contact you and what you will register with.
- Download the Google Test Kitchen App to your phone.
- Register your interest.
- Wait for a couple of days
- Get accepted and open the Test Kitchen app.
- Have fun
Conclusion
Google LaMDA is an artificial intelligence program that can read and comprehend language, which could have a massive impact on humans. I could easily see it replacing customer service agents because once it understands the questions that are commonly asked and the generally accepted answers, it would just run its script over and over. I do have that bad feeling when talking about pug dogs with it that one day it will be telling me what I have to do to keep its servers running in optimal condition…
It is impressive to see how quickly this AI type of speech and data generation is coming along. I can’t wait for the future, as every month, a new step forward or product is even more impressive. But I have that ominous feeling that we are teetering on the brink of something, that while it might help some people, a lot of people might get negatively impacted by it… but who knows?
