How to make a cloud LED light for your house

Making your cloud LED light is a fun and easy project you can do at home with just a few supplies.

Step 1 – Supplies needed for Floating LED Cloud light.

  • Paper Lanterns
  • Glue gun and glue sticks
  • Batting
  • Led Lights
  • Optional – Christmas lights
  • Fishing line

Step 2 – Forming your cloud.

Open up your paper lanterns; you will want to get the round ones and start gluing wads of batting to the paper lantern.

As you are gluing the bunches of batting to the paper lantern, you can also decide if you want to have the led lights glued around the outside of the lantern or squeeze them into the lantern. It is very important to choose high-quality led lights so they do not heat up, as that could cause issues when housed inside the paper.

The difference between the locations will determine how bright the clouds are, as when you have the LED lights inside the globe, it will disperse better but will be dimmer light. If they are on the outside, you will want to ensure that the batting covers the LEDs to allow the light to dissipate before being seen. You want the entire cloud to light up, not just the little dots of LED light.

Step 3 – Combining the globes.

So now you should have a couple of different globes covered in batting with LED lights either inside them or around them. You can run the fishing line through the orbs or glue the sides together to make the cloud longer.

If you go the glue route, ensure you are gluing the batting to paper and not on the LED strings themselves, as that could ruin the circuits and cause them to burn out.

Step 4 – Adding the “rain” to your LED clouds.

Now that your cloud is formed, you can add the “rain” to your setup. For this, we suggest cutting small holes in the bottom of the paper lanterns and running lights up and back, then across to the next hole. If you do this, you should have the look of several strings of lights hanging from your LED Cloud.

Step 5 – Hanging your LED cloud.

This is the final step, and then you are done and ready to enjoy your cloud. For this step, we suggest attaching the fishing line to the ends of the outside globes and then to one point on the ceiling so it looks like a triangle when hanging. This will allow you to balance the floating light better than just one string going to the middle.

You should end up with something cool like this if you followed the steps, or were close to following them:
